The Hokies got off to a rough start today, allowing an opening drive field goal by the ECU Pirates followed by an ECU touchdown. The Hokies battled back to close the gap to 7-10 with a 2-yard run by Ryan Williams. However, Williams touches would end in the second quarter as he suffered what appeared to be a game ending knee injury. Darren Evans picked up where Williams left off scoring on a 7-yard run following a 24-yard touchdown pass to Dyrell Roberts. ECU struck back and was up 24 -21 at the end of the first half. In the second half the Hokie defense came alive with 2 interceptions including one for a touchdown by Rashad Carmichael while holding the hot ECU Pirates offense who had scored 100 points in there first two games to just a field goal. David Wilson scored on two short runs that were capped off by 68-yard pass from Tyrod Taylor to Jarrett Boykin to put the Pirates away 49-27. Chris Hazley had a great day not missing a single extra point and absolutely killing the ball on the kick offs, even putting one through the uprights.

Tyrod Taylor had a day with 231 yards with 199 of them coming through the air. Evans and Wilson got most of the touches in the backfield averaging nearly 9 yards a carry and a combined 180-yards on the ground. Virginia Tech Hokies showed a sign of life today and hope to carry this into next weeks match up against Boston College.
